The 747SP closest to the bottom of the frame was delivered originally to Trans World Airlines (TWA) in March 1980 as N58201. In February 1985 Dubai purchased the aircraft and operated it with the Dubai Air Wing's Royal Flight as A6-SMR. After leaving the Royal Flight, Interface Operations began operating the aircraft as N992MS in June 2007, before it entered service with the Las Vegas Sands Corporation in August 2007 as VP-BLK.

The second 747SP is also owned by Sands. It was originally delivered new to Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) in May 1979 as N540PA, and named "China Clipper." With the purchase of Pan Am's Pacific routes, United Air Lines (UAL) would be the aircraft's next operator in February 1986 (re-registered as N149UA).

After United, this SP was leased by Tajik Air (from January 1993 to August 1995, named "Snow Leopard"), and then went on to serve both the Brunei Government (from August 1986 to December 1998 - wearing the registrations V8-JBB, V8-JP1 and V8-AC1) and the Bahrain Royal Flight (from December 1998 to October 2002 - wearing the registrations A9C-HHH, A9C-HMH) in VIP configuration.

Sands would begin flying the former "China Clipper" under its current registration (VQ-BMS) in May 2008.

Viva Las Vegas! .....

Viva Las Vegas! .....

...... we are off tomorrow to Las Vegas as a joint birthday present from our daughter. She's working the flight out and we'll have two days all together and then 'the old man' and I are staying on for an extra couple of nights (it's a long way to go for just two nights!).
I've always wanted to see Las Vegas and so am ridiculously excited! I don't understand gambling .... I just want to see the hotels ... but I think I MUST shake a bandit's arm (or two) just to say I've done it !!!
So, there won't be any comments from me for a little while I'm afraid, but I look forward to catching up with you all on my return!
I've got a new 1GB memory card to take with me ..... you have been
warned !!!! :o)
